The Medical Missionaries of Mary is an international group of Catholic religious women delivering services in the world of health, healing and medicine, promoting life and human dignity. Founded in 1937, we go out from our own cultures to where the need is greatest and witness to the universal love that Christ has for all peoples. Working collaboratively with the community we serve, the MMMs create a unique medical, human and social set of services to help people often in very challenging circumstances. We are also known by our initials, MMM. Our motto is “Founded and rooted in love”
MMMs are invited to serve in places and situations where human need is greatest globally. Together along with local communities we develop health, human and social services according to local needs collaborating with the community. To meet those needs, MMMs are trained professionally in wholistic medical, social and related services with a particular concern for women and children. When a project’s needs have been met in a community or the local people have been given the training and resources to provide for those needs, the MMMs will often move on.
We MMMs take our inspiration from the Visitation Gospel passage where Mary goes in haste to visit her pregnant cousin Elizabeth in her hour of need. Our focus is responding to urgent needs and easing suffering.
The MMM Congregation is international in membership, organisation and vision, with members in twelve different countries worldwide for reconciliation, justice and peace.
In all our global endeavours, the MMMs are guided at every step by their Core Values. Although we MMMs are involved in delivering diverse services globally, all we do is connected in these guiding Core Values. In selecting these, we participated in a collaborative process and engaged a facilitator to guide us in this work and we came up with the following six MMM Core Values:
