At the age of 57 and widowed, few of us would think of giving the rest of our lives to missionary activity, especially if we had a family of eight: sons, daughters and grandchildren. But Mrs. Ellen Walshe, with an address of Kinlough, Co. Leitrim, came willingly to MMM on 4  May 1948, entering in Rosemount.

She had been a widow for five years before joining. Was it, perhaps, because of the influence and prayers of her son and great friend of MMM, Fr. Berchmans at the Cistercian monastery in Collon?

With all this life experience behind her, she had a valuable contribution to make to her new family in MMM, especially in the garden and helping with ‘Peg’ (the children’s corner page in the MMM magazine), and in Rosemount, Killybegs and Clonmel.

Sr. Zelie died and is buried in Drogheda.
