She entered on 8 December 1955 as Mrs. Margaret Thorpe (née Spence) from Bagnalstown, Co. Carlow.
Sr. Margaret was a widow and a convert to Roman Catholicism and brought the best of that experience with her. Already 64 years of age, God gave her another 11 years to spend in service in MMM.
She gave much of that time to beautifying the garden in Beechgrove but always found the time to visit patients in the hospital. For a short period she was superior in Rosemount.
Although she was confused in her final months, Margaret’s prayerfulness remained. In her cultured accent, she would be heard quoting from the ‘Magnificat’: ”He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their hearts.’ Wasn’t it marvellous!”
Sr. Margaret Bede died and is buried in Drogheda.
