Congregational Register No. 401
D.O.B. 27.08.1934
First Profession 08.09.1957
Died: 12.03.2001 Aged: 66 years

Born in Tullow, County Carlow, Sr. Elizabeth, known as “Lizzie” to the family, entered MMM in 1955, shortly after leaving school. After initial formation, Sr. M. Laserian, as she was then known, trained as a general nurse in Drogheda and then as a dietician in London.

Throughout the 1960s, Sr. Elizabeth alternated her work between nursing in Rome and dietetics in the newly opened metabolic unit in Drogheda. In 1968 she was assigned to Naples and the Clinica Mediterranea, where she spent nine years as a nursing sister.

On return to Ireland, Sr. Elizabeth trained as a midwife and was then assigned to Mzuzu, Malawi, as a midwifery tutor. After nine years, she returned to Ireland in 1989. Here she worked for some years as local business administrator to the Beechgrove community before illness necessitated more constant care and attention. She was not able to walk and in 1997 she was admitted to Áras Mhuire. She had periodic bouts of hospitalisation and remission up to her death in March 2001.

Sr. Elizabeth endeared herself to those who knew her. She was a loyal friend and though in poor health, made a great effort to keep in touch, especially with those overseas. She was especially kind to those who needed a friend and was a naturally compassionate person. She had a lovely sense of humour. She loved to tease and play the occasional practical joke. Noted for her neat appearance, she kept whatever room she occupied the same way. She appreciated every little service shown her, especially by the staff in Áras Mhuire, and for the concern shown to her by MMM leaders.

Because Elizabeth had a great appreciation of nature, it was fitting that she was laid to rest on a beautiful sunny day when the signs of spring were evident and the daffodils had come into bloom.

Sr. Elizabeth died in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and is buried in Drogheda.
