Thank you

Thank you

pink flowerThis morning I came across a quote from Meister Eckhart:

“If the only prayer you say in your entire life is ‘thank you,’ that is enough.

I stopped to look at those words because I am aware of how much in my life I just take for granted.  I have a roof over my head, I am well fed, I can read and write and I know I will be looked after in my old age.  How many people alive on our planet today can say the same?  All the recent emphasis on climate change has sharpened our awareness of how the resources of the world are unevenly divided.

But I want to take a step back from that today to be grateful for all the resources of nature that we do have.  We have water – to drink, to bathe, to wash, to swim, to sail upon.  We have soil – to plant our crops, grow plants and trees and provide a solid ground to build a house.  We have sunlight – to light our days, to mature our plants and to provide vitamins for our bones.  Today I am just grateful for all this (even on a rainy day outside!).  I do not want to ignore the daily, ordinary things that are so precious.  Of course, it is more than just things. When I begin to think of the people in my life who are important to me.  Most of them will never know about it because I don’t go around telling them how much they bring happiness into my life.  And they do.  Yes, sometimes people can be irritating, boring or plain silly.  But most of the time I just enjoy people and their stories and interconnections.  That is one of the wonderful things about belonging to the MMM family – our interconnection is wide and constantly expanding globally.

So today I just want to say ’thank you.’
