On January 21, 1983, Rosalinda Gonzales arrived in Dublin to join MMM. Her vocation had been a long journey of discovery. In 1969 she had qualified in medicine at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, and went on to become an Associate Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Then in 1975 she went to Nigeria on a government contract and was assigned to Warri General Hospital, while the other Filipino doctors were assigned to Benin City.
She transferred to work at a diocesan clinic, and went to USA in 1981 to take a refresher course in obstetrics at Buffalo and raise funds for them. On her return to Nigeria she visited Benin City, and there met the Medical Missionaries of Mary – in fact the Congregational Leader was there on Visitation, and she invited Rosalinda to Ireland, which she did during her home leave of 1982. But before leaving Nigeria she had her mind made up and applied to join MMM.
Rosalinda’s vocation over the past twenty-five years took her to Ireland where she participated in the inter-congregational formation program run by the Irish Missionary Union. In England she studied reflexology and an update in child health before leaving for Tanzania where she served at Makiungu and Kabanga Hospitals until 2003.
After sabbatical leave she was missioned to Honduras and joined the community at our new mission in Choloma in 2005, where she assists the Doctor at the Parish dispensary, and provides preventative and complementary therapies with the MMM team at Casa Visitacion.
